Not so at one of Richardson’s hidden jewels, Austin’s Grill. This casual, elegant steakhouse features fabulous value plus fabulous food for a dining experience that is unparalleled, says Mark Gunter, Austin’s Grill food and beverage Director.  Austin’s Grill is nestled into a cozy corner of the Holiday Inn Select on the west side of Central Expressway, just south of Campbell Road. Following an extensive remodeling just a few years ago, the restaurant now rivals any other steakhouse in the area for casual, upscale atmosphere. An Austin-stone fireplace dominates one end of the restaurant, which is dotted with tables of rich, dark wood, and comfortable seating designed for leisurely dining. The Hill Country-style, lodge-like atmosphere lends itself to lingering over a long dinner or relaxing lunch.  As with any restaurant with staying power, the food is the real star. Austin’s Grill features prime rib, and offers it in many palate- and pocketbook-pleasing packages. “Our prime rib is 21-day-aged prime rib USDA select,” very succulent, Mr. Gunter says. The dinner menu offers several prime rib selections, including a sandwich piled high with six ounces of shaved prime rib on a French roll and all the trimmings. A prime rib entrée is available in 10- and 14-ounce sizes. Filet mignon, a rib eye, and lamb chops round out the steakhouse-style menu, which also features salmon, crab cakes, pasta, and chicken for those who want to venture outside the red-meat theme. All entrees are served with fresh seasonal vegetables, choice of potato, and the self-serve soup and salad bar. Diners are cautioned, however, to save a little room for dessert, since the menu features favorites such as warm apple cobbler with cinnamon ice cream and caramel sauce, chocolate cake, and bread pudding. One favorite that has earned a loyal following is the restaurant’s all-you-can-eat prime rib lunch buffet. Served Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., this lunch special draws a crowd every day of the week. Its $10.95 price may be one draw, but the nearly endless spread of delectable items is no doubt another. The lunch buffet features a complete salad bar including several specialty salads, house-made soups, chili, rice or potatoes, vegetables, and even dessert. Fish dishes, such as tilapia, are also offered on the lunch buffet, as are specialty chicken entrees. For vegetarians or those who prefer a lighter lunch, a soup and salad buffet is priced at just $7.95. A lunch menu is also available. Discover for yourself one of Richardson’s hidden treasures.
